Portrait of Union soldier Adam Freybert who served with Company B of the 1st Regiment Maryland Volunteer Cavalry during the Civil War. He suffered a skull fracture from a saber blow to his head at the Battle of Brandy Station on June 9, 1863. Taken by Dr. Reed Bontecou at Harewood Hospital in Washington, D.C. possibly in 1871. Photograph of a leg wound suffered by Union soldier Daniel Snyder who served with Company G the 4th Maryland Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. Snyder died three days after the leg’s amputation at Harewood Hospital in Washington, D.C., on May 28, 1864. His leg wound was possibly received during the Battle of Spotsylvania.
