Portrait of Union soldier Adam Freybert who served with Company B of the 1st Regiment Maryland Volunteer Cavalry during the Civil War. He suffered a skull fracture from a saber blow to his head at the Battle of Brandy Station on June 9, 1863. Taken by Dr. Reed Bontecou at Harewood Hospital in Washington, D.C. possibly in 1871.
