Photo of people, possibly tourists, posing on and around an observation tower in the abandoned ruins of Fort Holmes on Mackinac Island, Michigan, c. 1870s. The fort was occupied by British soldiers and presumably their Native American allies during the 1814 Battle of Mackinac Island, part of the War of 1812. Fort Holmes is the highest point on the island. Taken by photographer James Jenney and originally published as a stereoview.
